Contest entry - 03/21/12 22:44

Thought I maybe should present it here, as it is more of a fun entry.

I had no idea what to enter for the contest, so I thought I could rework the old Conflict demo, as it came to my mind recently. See this as some sort of "Hi!" to any Acknex user who's been around here since 2001.

This is a squished down version of the original version from 2001. And since the code got smaller, I thought I should add more features.
Makes use of some template shaders, anything else is within the 5K

Code:
http://pastebin.com/2acWk9CN
Needs an Acknex 8.20.1 or newer installation capable of shaders. Does not work with current beta due to a confirmed bug.

Download:
http://www.opserver.de/coni_users/web_users/pirvu/au/demo/zips/theconflictresurrected.zip (35MB)
Includes source as well as a published version which can be run without A8 being installed.

Youtube:

It's a bit jerky due to live recording.
Best watch the realtime version (launch the exe in the download!)

Credits:
Music was composed by Nightbeat - not explicitely for this demo, but with explicit allowance.

Oh... an this is all Rondidon's fault, yes!

Best thing: Acknex vs. Unity! wink
Really nice "music video", loved the old version and this is also really cool!

The code is only 5kb. There are graphic resources of course. I'm not that skilled grin

There are some more easter eggs hidden.

Re: Contest entry - 03/22/12 17:13

For everyone interested int he hassle I had getting the code down to 5kb, here's the backup folder laugh

http://www.swertvolc.de/download/tcrne12_code.zip (small)

in the folders are
- the original version in C-Script for A5
- the first running version in Lite-C for A8
- an already size and algorithm optimized version.

Directly in the folder you can check how messy code turned into a complete mess.

Fun fact:
The original demo was written in a short time with don't care about anything just get this thing done code.
The new version was written with a lot more time but with tiny and compact code which required some creative ideas.
Two different tasks laugh

WOW,
really nice.

One of the coolest 3dgs Demos i have seen. (seen a lot)

for crunching down the source to 5KB, much Kudods

(Also laughted at the ackenex/Unity popin)

-> I just realized, I totally mised out on that 5kb contest frown
Would have entered a 2d AI shooter then. Oh well.
I really like the contest idea.

You mean the "jcl" graffity? That's the one I found beside the already mentioned "Acknex vs Unity".

There is a box in the grass. I cannot see what it is, because the texture is too blurry. Maybe it could be the box of a sybex version of gamestudio?!?

Almost. It's the A3 box.
