Assault! is a Multiplayer 4VS4 Third Person Shooter. You will take place on the battlefield as a Marine Soldier or Resistance Soldier, your goal is to eliminate the other team.

Important Issues

-If you get an error regarding "msvcr100.dll", install the Microsoft C++ 2010 Redist Kit and delete that file from the Assault\data folder.
-If your router does not support UPnP and you want to host a internet game, you will have to open manually port 7359 with your local IP.
-In order to join a LAN game, you won't be able to join it directly via server list. Instead use "Join via IP" and enter the local IP of the PC you want to play with.

New Features in V0.81

-Added a server list system and automatic port forwarding with UPnP. This way you can open games just doing a click and your game will appear on server list and other players will be able to join.
-Now you can duck/stand up faster.
-When snipering, if you crawl the "breathing-amplitude" is reduced and you can aim easily.
-Crosshair system improved
-Now you get more precission while aiming with mouse right button in auto-fire weapons.
-AS_Ship map bugs fixed
-Player and Camera movement improved for more smoothing
-Crashed players are now removed automatically
-Gravity fixed

-AS_Ship map added
-HitBox system improved (you will make different damage on different body parts)
-Now you can switch weapon while reloading
-W-16 Cartridge changed to a curved one
-Now you get four clips instead of three each round

-Using now Shade-C Volumetric Light Rays
-Now you can see you Team members names above his head.
-You will also be able to toggle fire mode between Full-auto and Semi-automatic mode in weapons which have it available.

-If you survived last round and you don't buy a new weapon, you will save your last weapon, if you died last round and you don't buy a new weapon you will appear with the uzi as default

-Now you don't have to enter server's ip always you want to play, instead I'm using an dyndns host (assault.dyndns.org) and the server id is saved in settings panel, which you can change to your friend's ip if you want to play a game in another server.

I'm curious how the new map will work out laugh looks like its great for team play.

Great game laugh As other said, stay TP. Here are some bugs which i found. The weirdest was the endless reload of the pistol.

Some bugs of the game:
- endless reload loop until weapon change
- Gravity is "weird"
- Pistol shoots twice sometimes
- The firerate is a bit to high from the machine gun
- The HUD goes sometimes crazy

There is a problem with your webhost, your side is "under review". Maybe their terms don't allow that use. I've seen some that don't.

From what I can see in the video, it looks like your frame rate is low, and I think that's why you get that very high frame rate and maybe also some of the bugs. Have you tried to use fraps and see what FPS do you get or tried to disable some visuals to see if the problem is still there?

About gravity I will fix it, and I will also take a look at the other bugs, but maybe some of them are caused by your frame rate.

EDIT: Shitty free hosting, that's why I asked for someone to share his hosting xD Anyone knows another free hosting which works better?

Without fraps i have a framerate of 40. Even when i remove all effects it stays at 40.
I have a Radeon 5850 an i think this is enough grin

lol I can have 60 fps with antialising on my HD3650

Things like fire rate, gravity etc. should be frame rate independent! Multiply the time you wait with time_step.

In fact it should be frame rate independent, because I'm using wait(-X.X); but in practice it isn't.

Finally server list is fixed using another database kindly shared by schokokeks. I've also fixed gravity, and gun reloading should be fixed now too. I'm currently uploading the fixed version.

I need your opinion again. Currently the play system is all the players appear at start of round, and they kill the other team until a team has no players alive. This can lead to huge wait time for death players. What would you think about changing it to a respawn-based gameplay? This is, all players appear at first and when they die they wait five seconds to respawn and they appear on a respawn point in the map, the round ends when a number X of deaths is reached of a limit time is over.

Those should both be available as separate game modes, I think. Having "survival mode" (the current system) makes dying a big deal, which makes the game more intense, I believe laugh But I can understand some impatient players might prefer regular respawning.

If you don't already, perhaps impose a time-limit on the current mode, so the last couple of players aren't just hiding? I don't know if you've already done this, because I have exams and can't afford the time to try it out yet. But I definitely will try it.

It's great to see so many multiplayer games in development!

I remember back in the old days when there were almost no good examples of multiplayer games in GS and everyone thought it was GS's fault (although relatively recent updates have helped somewhat).

yeah, people open Assault, see no servers online and close the game, instead of creating their own server. Also I've noticed some people creates their own servers but they don't support UPnP and nobody can join their games.

I noticed that crash sometimes when creating a game in DM_Garages, I can say that it started happening when I added the ports plugin, without it it doesn't crash, but I see no reason for that.

Few things I've noticed:
* player is jumping too fast, make it slower (will looks much better)
* player is able to move over hight things (example rails on boat)
* crosshair sometimes goes crazy (even if I'm not shooting, it moves)
* add in game control menu, so players could be able to adjust move speed run-time
* some parts of water are black
* sun rays looks strange (at least for me)
* I get strange crashes while launching game, but after closing them game runs
* I don't see recoil

-I already have fixing jump in my to-do list
-Move over rails is done intentionally
-What do you mean by it goes crazy? crosshair is supposed to move also when you walk, run or crawl.
-What do you mean by adjust move speed run-time?
-Black parts in water should be a default shader problem
-Sun rays are from Shade-C, I think I can't tweak them?
-When do you have those crashes?
-Recoil is there but it's not additive. I mean when you shoot in full-auto the camera won't go up but vibrate.

* by move speed, I meant mouse sensitivity.
* crosshair moves when you shoot, not only when you run, walk, crawl.
when I press mouse left while reloading sometimes it moves.
* I get crashes when I launch game, not the startup thing.

Well justed tested it !
Really polished game, runs very fast on my GTX 460 !

Well strange windows 7 says two or three error messages when launching, but i press ok and the game start ?

personnal taste :

- Ship : it would need some navigation room with electronic boards and all stuff ot navigate, or perhaps it's a ismple tracted cargo ?

- Sea level : later after finishing a playable version :
add some life like Some birds, some far island , ships on
the far that passes etc ... ?

- Later also Add some 3D assets to the ship !
For now it has only containers models :


- On garage level, when entering there is only walls at beginning, why not putting some life , like tools machinery
or other stuff ,and cases ocntaining maintenance stuff ?
To really make it look a garage, not a simple warehouse !


- On garage level the walls where is not stuff looks really
like planes, it's not bad, but why not put some variations on walls or perhaps putting some 3D stuff or some decals around ?

On Gameplay: if you keep running you can't zoom !
I think like other games you should priorise the zoom on the walk !For example , you are running, and if you zoom to shoot your character automatically stop the run !

Last thing, if your project go popular, replace the buggy of the first level laugh


I know you are in gameplay phase not level design, there are just ideas i had that could inspire you laugh !

Anyway, great indie project , just waiting for some new levels !
It will be "Socom A8" !

New Soldier Models - Assault! - V0.81 - Multiplayer 4VS4 Shooter - 04/18/11 22:36

I've bought a model pack with some soldier models and two new weapons. I'm adapting the animations and script to fit them. Here are some shots of one of the new soldiers:





As I have some different variations, each player in the game will look different.

I'm not sure if that model was worth the money. I'm no modeller but that first screenshot looks weird. Where are the guy's shoulders? Why are arms so weirdly bent?
And on the second one you see that sharp edge at the "shoulder" and also the elbows look like the model was not modelled to be animate.

Sorry for ranting on that model which you bought.
Another thought: I hope that soldier is not firing the SAW in that pose wink

I agree, the shoulders weren't rigged well but It was worth the money for sure, it was really cheap. I've fixed the bones from shoulder part and now the shoulders look fine. Here are the first screenshots in-game:





Do you think the camera is in the right position or maybe I should move the soldier a bit up?

Some news, I've fixed all bugs your reported me (except crash when selecting DM_garages which I could just make it less frequent) and added two new weapons: M4A1 Carbine and M249 SAW
