WED not building map - 02/09/14 14:28

Hey,

I am really new to this forum, and it is true: I came here because I have a problem with the WED.

I have created two 3D models in the MED, and imported them to the WED. The models are a house and the ground it stands on (the houses garden).

I can see both models placed in all 4 preview windows of the WED, but after I build the maps the pop-up window is just filled with nothing.

I tried putting a cube in the WED in the same place with the house to check if it was the positioning, but I could see the cube but not the house on the map preview.

What am I doing wrong? What could be the issue?

Thank you in advance,
Yldrania

Hey!

Have you tried to add a different model (one from the samples or template folders) to the scene?

Do your models have textures? Are those textures in 32bit/ have an alpha channel? Is the alpha channel completely black?

Do your models have material settings in the Skin Manager in MED?

Do sample projects (from the samples folder) work for you?

Hey!

Thank you for your quick response!

I did try to add a different model, but when I try to import one of those it always sais "File Loading Error" and won't even open.

My models have textures, and I hate to admit it but I don't know what an alpha channel is. Could you define please?

Yes, my models have material settings in the Skin Manager in MED.

Sample projects don't even open for me D:

What do you mean with "when I try to import one of those"? How do you add your models to the scene? The correct way is to rightclick one of the editor windows, then go to Add -> Add model.

The alpha channel is an optional 4th channel of your image which can store transparency information (-> google). If you'd have one and it were completely black the models would be invisible.

Try to remove the material settings.

Please specify and don't only say "there is an error" (if applicable) but say the name of the error and the complete error message.

I did name the error right in the first line of my post: "File Loading Error" is all it gives me.

I reinstalled the software, since I couldn't open any of the sample models. I can now open them without textures, but have the same problem as with the selfmade stuff: It won't allow me to preview it at all. The window in the preview is just blue and nothing else is in it, even though building the map itself won't give an error.

I will try to open the models the way you suggested and without the material settings later today, and let you know if it worked then.

Thanks so much for helping me:)

Alright, so I got that preview thing fixed now, it works with a script added to the editor. But my problem now is: The WED won't import the models I had imported before. It will give me the option, show me the model, and I can click import and choose which textures and stuff to import, but then it won't do it.

What could be the mistake?

---

When I import template models, some of them can be previewed just fine, while others give the error "Skin0.pcx: Bad WMB format".

Literally "importing" models into WED is not the correct way (in almost all cases).

Okay, thank you for that. I did that and it "imported" (=added) the models right this time. However, it still won't allow me to preview them after building the map. What is wrong there?

I know this might sound silly - but did you put the models inside
a 'room' - add a 'player' so that you can see them(plus first person camera) - build and then save? and then RUN it?

I was having a similar problem due to not having enough RAM reserved. My level is very large however, and from what I understand your level consists of 2 models which is no where close to the amount of RAM required to be used to create that bug. Unless there is something wrong with the models you are using. What size are the textures of the models you are using?
