Here's the promised downgrade to the A5.2 engine - the last engine that supported software rendering and ran on very old machines without 3D hardware. You need a valid A6/A7 Commercial or Pro password for downloading the downgrade: A5 setup A5 Commercial key A5 Pro key The key is required for installing the setup or an A5 update. Note that A6 levels or models won't run with the A5 engine. You'll need to use the A5 WED and MED editors for creating A5 objects. The updates to 5.24 can be found at updcom524.exe and updpro524.exe .

Hello, After trying the download,.... I cant get it to work properly. Wed Crashes immediately after launching. I'll try downloading aging to confirm it not a bad download. Ok... I just confirmed that it isn't a bad download are other users experiencing problems? Is there some special method to installing this version of A5? I have a very old version of A5 extra installed to another directory... ( It works fine) [Also if I overwrite the Acknex.exe with the new one for Commercial it works] [Also installing A5 Demo and re-writing all files with commercial works] This rules out a prob with my Computer * I'm not really expecting any support here other than a Clean install I really want to see that A5 comm will run before I buy the Pro upgrade/downgrade you allmost have me convinced to spend the $800 - upgrade/downgrade Just want a clean install without copying this pastin/editing this kind of thing. Thanks, *** Teutonic Darkness ***

Well, What the heck.... I have waited for years for this. The Install for Commercial is indeed corupt. However rather than waiting for you to change your mind again and decide not to offer it: I'm going to go ahead and buy A6 Pro and do the downgrade. I'll just have to take my chances with Mix- matching components to make it work A5 Demo + A6 Pro/downgrade key = A5 Pro Well I hope anyway. *Please at least tell me after the purchase you will at least work with me if it dosn't install. *** Teutonic Darkness *** Quote:
Also I have 2 Question?
1.) Well Do you offer any discounts If I buy more than I Pro?
2.) Can I purchase More than I Pro for other team members to {Use Only) for Project and return to me later?
3.) I just made the Pro purchase ... I want to Personally state to avoid Confusion...
The Volume Should be licended to me:
Joseph Nelson
However On the Engine itself I would like it to only show my Company Name: T.D. Games.

What are the feature specifications of this A5 downgrade? As in, is true color (24-bit or 32-bit color) supported? A6 has the specifications chart, for A6, so what about A5?
Also, aren't Standard and Extra included as well (or the instructor's version)? I'm just wondering in this case.

I'm not absolutly positive... but I believe it is actually 24 so the software renderer can handle things if needed.
I doubt they have a spec chart anymore.. maybe the manual that comes with it could be of more help?
I'll look and see if I have a spec chart as I had the Old site saved on my drive at one time. However it is doubtfull as I really havn't needed it as for what I do I know it is fully capable.

I'm mainly referring to panels - 2D elements. But then again, knowing what features you get with A5 does help.

Wouldn't you know it? The internet archive's wayback machine has the solution to the feature comparison chart. Have a look! I can't tell what version this is for, however.

Hey ... Great find
It was the info for Pre-5.24 As at the top you see 5.202 update available.. Also the Price had droped in the later days as It was in the later days $800.
I know this because by the Time I had saved the money... It was $900. and not available anymore so I had to get A6.
I think all the info is valid for the most part...
That was Awesome Seeing that again... "I will be sure to save it this time" ...
Thanks...

Hi, I´ve noticed that you have add the Updates to 5.24 for Comm. an Pro. Is there no update for the Extra and the Standard Version? Why? At first you´ve only add the downgrades for Comm. and Pro. as described but now (because I think you really add it later as I´ve just said) there are these Updates, too. So please tell me is there any particular reason why you aren´t offering an Update for Standard or Extra? I would be happy if you could offer it anytime
@jcl: Please answer if possible
mfg, BiG_F
Well... I'm not JCL so dont count this as officail... But I don't think you will ever see it for the lower Editions
When it was first being discussed about making it available that was brought up .... bacically they don't want to deal with it for lower Editions. However I you have Supported Conitec by Spending a little more... Than they consider it worth wile to have it available to you.
After waiting this long for it to become available... I would pretty well take it as:
What you see is what you get.
Now If I really wanted this update... I would grab it while you still even have an option.
I must say from using it... it is "AweSome" my workflow is going steady once again...

And $200 for commercial edition really isn't that much. If you didn't spend on what you didn't really need (like new dinnerware when your current stuff is in decent order), you could save that $200 in 4 or 5 months, possibly even within 2 months. Try to work overtime if you can as overtime means 50% bonus pay and it adds up (but make sure the place you're working at allows it). For convienience, I used some copy paste on that chart to post it here. Since I can't use the table tag, it's ASCII art instead. Code:
+------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Edition |Standard |Extra |Commercial |Professional | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Level editor |yes |yes |yes |distributable| +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Model editor |yes |yes |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Client/Server |no |no |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Multiserver |no |no |no |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Max players |1 or 2 ** |1 or 2 ** |4 |unlimited | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Max screen res |640x480x16|1024x768x16|1024x768x16|1600x1200x32 | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Light sources |white |white |coloured |coloured | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Static shadows |yes |yes |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Dynamic shadows |no |no |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Particle generator|yes |yes |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Beam generator |no |no |no |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Mirrors |no |no |no |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Terrain |no |yes |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Transparency |plain 50% |alpha/flare|alpha/flare|alpha/flare | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Geometric LOD |no |yes |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |AVI scene player |no |no |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |CD audio player |no |no |yes |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |File packer |no |no |no |yes | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |C++/Delphi SDK |separately|separately |separately |included | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Watermark * |yes |yes |no |no | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Support (email) |no |no |90 days |1 year | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Price |$49.- |$99.- |$199.- |$1250.- | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+ |Upgrade *** |-- |$69.- |$99.- |$625.- | +------------------+----------+-----------+-----------+-------------+

What is so good about the downgrade? Isn't A6 supposed to be the better version? Or am I in the dark somewhere?

Some want to be able to develop games using the software mode, which has far greater compatibility for older systems and for those who want to make a simple game. My 2D game would otherwise fit into this, but I need support for 24-bit color and A5 doesn't have that, so it's not an option. 24-bit color was only implemented into the 6.31 update. 16-bit color looks very bad, considering all those gradients I've got and 32-bit color would otherwise just end up wasting both disk space and memory and not worth it. I just mainly posted the feature comparison chart so users would know what each edition from A5 supports. I got it off the internet archive.

TeutonicDarkness: No, I've tried to use play_sound already, and it didn't work too. I don't get any compilation errors, but i can't hear the sound. I also can't hear the walking sound from the player (i can hear the guard's) and the menu sounds in the office level. ent_playsound and play_entsound are working.
Hey,
Before we get off track here too much.... If you are indeed using the Downgrade..
Start another thread about your sound problem Under the Past. you are also more likely too get help and it keeps this thread organized.
