Hey guys. Just checked in again after a long time. And I was disappointed how little has changed. I read the release notes here: http://manual.3dgamestudio.net/beta.htmThat's ridiculous. Compared to when I was an active user, A8 did not get a tenth of the features over the last year it got back then. Going through the list, there are three "major" features, all of which got implemented by external people. The map compiler can compile bigger levels. The rest of the features sound like someone could implement them in less than an hour. That's Conitec's work for the last year. The forecast page shrinks, too. What's going on? Was there an announcement that they'd stop developing the engine or so? Maybe I missed that. Well, people move on to bigger things I guess. I hope the rest of you is doing all right. - Joey

hi,
yes Zorro development ate all the remaining manpower. JCL seemed to realizes that he could never comepete with all the new engines like unity3d with their huge developerteam.
So he tried to get a second standing leg with this ZORRO thing to earn some money.
But he closed further developing on it for a while now and carrying more about GS.
Some guys did left us but the most remaining here even if not less of them using other engines besides A8.
the engine in the core is strong...editors are lagging like always.
but if in future JCL split his time between Zorro and A8 I believe more Users switch the 3D Engine

Beside all philosophy, just take a look at the facts. The horrible monster (Uni... could not write it out, before it starts to get boring) has more developers, more exporters, is more flexible, extremly better workflow, more possibilities (just look at the new animations system, the new improved particle system...). Ask your self as a developer with interest to invest 1000 Dollars in a pro engine... would you buy unity or gamestudio? And if the majority would buy not an oldschool engine... why should jcl invest his time in a minority? I would not do it. So this is the bitter final end. There is nor more A9, last thing, we could expect... maybe hardly the android version. Everything dies... sooner or later.
Sometimes when you write down this opinion to the other community fellows, It feels like you say these words to al little kid, which only dreams some crap about immortality.

Ah okay. That sounds about right. That Zorro thing which used to be called Dagobert... well. I'm not gonna comment on that . It also seems to be a lot more quiet around here these days. I'd have expected that my post would get ripped apart. Seems like people here have come around the fact that there's not much left in stock. So what other tools are people using then? I found UDK to have a damn steep learning courve. Unity? Probably.

there are a lot of options, each with different pricing, and for different programming and 3d art skills. probably "the Borg" Unity is the winner, especially its torrent version , but UDK, Neoaxis, Esenthel, Torque, C4, Shiva, Ogre etc. are also can be a good choice, depending on your requirements. imo if you're just a hohhyist, Unity Pro is too expensive, and the free is simple not enough.

Unity is for shitty casual games, I've yet to see one single unity game I actually enjoy playing. It's still gonna kill Acknex, though.

The only reason so many Unity games suck is because Unity is so easy to use that you don't have to be good at what you do to finish a game.
