My dream was to be a dumpster truck driver, I really loved those things. They were so big, loud and I just LOVED that thing on the back that lifts the trash cans. I used to run to the window to see them every time I heard them come.

Then I wanted to be a vet. But I don't really remember why or how that happened.

Then I ended up being a programmer.

Life really can take us places we would have never expected :-)

So what was your childhood-dream-job?

I've always wanted to be a garbage man who stands on the step at the very back of the garbage truck while moving to the next houses.
Then I wanted to be a filmmaker/ director (for ages) and eventually got a place at an academy, but turned it down to become a mathematician. They don't have much in common but I'm glad with my decision.

When I was really small, there were probably dozens of things I wanted to be when I grew up. But once I turned 8, I started dabbling in game programming, and that pretty much took over my whole life. There's no doubt in my mind now that I want to be a professional game programmer.

First I wanted to be an architect. Then for a while a cartoonist. Then something to do with special effects for movies. Then since I was 12 or so I wanted to make video games.

I always wanted to be a train driver. I had my own model railroad and spent hundrets of hours building model landscapes and playing with the trains. I still like trains today, especially steam locos are fascinating.

My second big dream was to work with the (first and old) "Gamestar crew" as game tester or to get a game programmer like John Romero with his cool hair style
My goodness, this were different times when gaming industry was a bunch of creative, cool people in little sympathic companies producing fantastic games that were so different compared to the staple articles from today.

Then when I got into computers (My first was a Tandy 1000HX 8088) I started learning Quick Basic I think it was back then.
That's when I wanted to be a programmer.

and now i do gamedesign, writing and directing. little has changed...

I allways wanted to be in The S.W.A.T. of Germany the so called S.E.K. but now I just want to become a Media-Designer

1st grade through 3rd grade: US President
4th through 7th grade: cancer research scientist
8th to now: game designer and CEO of a independent game developer, and eventually working for Jagex.

As you can see, I had massive dreams when I was younger, and I have gradually downsized them to be more realistic. Plus, I now realize with today's community, I would be at more risk of assassination than just about any other job in the US.

when I was little i always wanted to be police officer. When I learned about SWAT and played the game with the same name, I wanted to join the SWAT, but when I learned that it was almost impossible, I wanted to be police officer again. few years later, I got interested in games and game development.
Now I want to develop my own games and hopefully be able to join a game development company

At the first time I used Windows 95, I wanted to be the pwner ahmm... I mean owner of Microsoft.

Then a guy in an office (As far as I remember My father was taking me to a tour in the company he works in)

Then a physics scientist.

Then in the first time I played Crash Bandicoot on Playstation 1, and I completed the game, I was reading the credits while saying: "Wow! I weally wanna wanna wanna be in their OMGWTFBBQ team!"
And that was my first step into the world of game creation and begging to get a job in a gaming team.

And in 2000, I found a program called "RPG Maker 2000" and I was something like: "OMGUOMG I SOOOOO WANNA BE IN THEIR TEAM!"
Then I got the trial version. There was a bug in the program, if your trial expired, just change the date setting on the PC!

And in 2001 I found 3DGS and I was sending messages to Conitec: "Can I be in your team PLZZZZZZZZ!!!"

And they were not replying to my messages... so I used the program instead.

What if you realize one day that you are no longer interested in Runescape?

back on topic. as a kid i wanted to be so much things. A train driver, a pilot, badass cop and ofcourse a SuperHero(who didnt?)
then i wanted to do something with the movies. special effects, directing...anything but acting.

then i got interested in "how in the hell they create those video games i play"

oh yea, i almost forgot...for some longer time i wanted to be a director and have my own company(for anything) but now i'd be more than satisfied with lets say, a coffee shop for start

hmm... well for me, idk really.. lets see, i think i thought something about fireman and scientist, lol ages ago, picked up with the mugen fighting engine, loved editting the characters and menus so that got me interested in the game field, got my hands on 3drad 3.0, thats my baby, if it didnt die out, i'd be using that instead of this the new free version of it sucks, anyways, started planning scion about 5+ years ago, anyways to the point:

i wanna create one of the more well known games with gamestudio and prove that its a capable engine even for multiplayer and hopefully get a bigger more organized team for future projects

It wasn't really supposed to be an insult. I've just assumed he is only really interested in working at Jagex because he likes Runescape, and followed that idea to a question. What would happen if he decided he wasn't interested in Runescape anymore? Most people I ever knew (even the biggest fans) got bored with Runescape after playing with it for a while. Actually I think this can happen with any game, but still.

Who knows? If you get tired of Runescape, Joquan, and decide you don't want to work at Jagex, what would you like to do?

Im really stretching the old brain cells here, going back nearly 35 years and all, but here goes...
And Ive been bouncing back and forth between Computer Engineer and Computer programmer ever since.
Based on market trends.

But Games programming has been a slowly evolving process taking place in my private time since then...

I always wanted to be an inventor (inspired by characters like Daniel Düsentrieb/Gyro Gearloose). And well, now I still want to invent new things. I plan to study computer science and am "inventing" games in my spare time. So things probably got a bit more specialized now, but basicly never changed. Even though there are other topics I always was very interested in like flying to far away planets, ancient history and well, just getting to know everything kinda unknown to mankind, finding and inventing new things . And of course to get rich (which I still see as a usefull base to realize the mentioned dreams at least partly, like doing a lot of traveling and not having to care about the money the hardware for experimenting costs) .
