Phishfood Pre-Alpha [New Dev Screens/Lvl 2]

Hard day at work? Want to just sit down and relax, not to think very much, and still be entertained. We have a game for you.

We welcome you to try Phishfood!

Right now we are releasing a demo showing the basic features. The game is very simple and slightly addictive, but in a relaxing way. Just move your direction bubble around and your fish will follow. Run your fish into a smaller fish to eat it and grow, the bigger the fish the more you'll grow from it. Beware, if you bite off more than you can chew by running into or being attacked by a larger fish you lose!

Currently the demo shows a WIP of the first level, a simple coral, fairly shallow, and with slow fish, but still it is challanging.

Known Issues:
No bounds yet for either the fish or the bubble.
Perfecting movement speed needs to be done.
Instant start makes the fish jerk around right away.
Defaulted to a widescreen resolution.
No Menu.
Distortion effect makes fish look larger than they really are.

Added screen shot of second level development. Progress is going slow but it is progressing.

yeah, thats kinda what im going for, im using my girlfriends p3 laptop to test the game on as i go (it is about the equivalent of a netbook only with less ram). I figure it is something that can fit just about any demographic and since netbooks are on the rise with college students it's really something i consider to be a good route.

Definitely. I see heaps and heaps of uni students in my classes pull out laptops and muck around during lectures. And I'm not talking about Computer Science students (I don't go to those lectures). This is in a Psychology elective.

Yes, I see such mini-notebooks here as well in the University. Some telephone providers give them away for free if you sign a telephone contract for several years.

But I am not sure if they want to play fish games. Most of them are checking mails and surfing the net.

And by the way: lowpoly games on iPhone, netBooks or anything else are no excuse for every project not using shaders. Casual games are high quality today, low poly models or not.

Yes, that's true. A lot of them are using their netbooks to take notes, but looking at facebook at the same time. Quite a few of them play flash-games in-between taking notes (notes need to be concise, after all smile ), while I've seen others spend a whole lecture playing World of Warcraft, or DoTA, but I think they are exceptions.

-Casual games need to run also on crappy hardware.
-Netbooks have (compared to 2000€ desktop PCs) crappy hardware.
-high-poly models and shaders make games slow (especially these butter-smear blurr shaders, and dynamic shadow mappings)

Thats the simple reason why casual games should avoid using shaders.
And if, try only the "fast" ones, and with the option
to deactivate them.
Best is, if game have enough options for activating/deactivating
FPS consuming features. But then, also on the low settings it should
look balanced.

Well, I just wanted to check in and say that I am still working on this. I took a small break but am just finishing up with the seconded level (model wise) It is an aquarium, the fish will be a little big and faster now and there will once in a while be events like fish food falling from the top or a net going thru the water.

wow, that is very similar right down to the movement setup, but your not the original grin I got the idea from and old late '80s game that I played in 3rd grade. of course I planned on adding upon it but your right that is crazy. I plan to take it a lot farther though. When did you make that?

I released it in april 08 - started two or three months before. (-> http://www.gameus.de)
It was born from the idea to make a fishing game from the "view of the fishes" laugh
