Hi all,

Has anyone discovered a method to force the z strategies to use other historical data when starting up with the mt4 bridge?

Due to the limited amt of history data held on the mt4 servers, I always get significant gaps when starting the strategies. This can result in long delays in taking new trades when restating the strategies. Not ideal for testing when the frequency of fixed and improved versions is high, esp when one of my tests is an fx only account.

When you look at the MT4 menu under Extras -> ~Full History~ you can download all the needed data.

I don't have an option for extras in Mt4?

Do you mean tools history center?

This only downloads the data to your local machine, does zorro know how to access this data?

Pressing F2 brings me Tools -> History Center

In MT4 this downloads history data to your local machine, above the amount normally available. To reduce load on the servers, only a limited amount of data is pulled down automatically when you open a chart.

You also need to increase your max bars in history and max bars in chart in options.

Finally, at least in my versions of MT4, you lose this manually downloaded history the next time you login.

However, as far as I understand zorro accesses history data directly from the mt4 server and not the local history store on the machine.

Code:
MT4 servers usually have only a limited live price history, such as 2000 hours. Therefore the loadHistory function normally does not work with MT4; downloading historic price data requires direct access to your broker's price server. Strategies such as Z1 and Z2 that use a LookBack period longer than 2000 hours still work with the MT4 plugin, as missing prices are substituted with available price data; but they can be slightly less profitable at start. This is indicated with a "gap" warning in the startup message.

So I was wondering if it was possible to force zorro to look at its own history store if it has gaps from the mt4 servers.

Interesting.

Since I posted, I went ahead and upgraded to 1.14 beta.

This time on restarting, there were no gaps and instead of a wait of a few days before the first trade was taken - as was my past experience with the mt4 bridge - z12 jumped straight in and now has 6 trades.

BTW this z12 with fx only has way outperformed the full z12 on fxcm even with the constant upgrades and gaps when it was taking no trades with the same margin risk settings of 50/10. +980 vs -700 on closed trades and +1700 vs -500 in current equity, since the end of May.

Interesting. I have two live account running. One with and one without the FX only flag set to 1.

Will see how they perform in the next months. At the moment they are doing fine...
