I was not sure where I should post this topic but here we go:
I've never seen a regular font like Arial in any game that I've played so far (?), so I was wondering if everybody paints them on their own? I know Harry Potter's nice Font-Generator but am I allowed to modify existing standard Windows fonts? As a result I am limited to bitmap and cannot use truetype fonts, correct?
Thanks in advance.

No!
I've created for my project an own truetype font. For that you could use the font creator from high-logic.

I dont't think that you are allowed to modyfing or using fonts without asking the author.
But I think you can use true type fonts which were created by others for non-commercial "home" projects.

Im shure there are lots of royality-free true type fonts on the web.
Just check if they are allowed to be distributed in other products

Here one of the many font-sites:

Thanks guys, I will try the font creator but I don't understand why the full version costs 80-200 bucks, that's sheer robbery.

My experience with use of external fonts.
The file of your font is for example fontExt.ttf
In Windows XP it goes under Windows/font.

How you declare your font in lite-c:
FONT* my_font = "nameMyFont#40";
Where nameMyFont is the name of your font under Windows/font, not always is the same of name of starting font file.
This last thing is very very important.
The dimension of character is 40 in the example.
Best Regards
