Recentle upgraded to 7.82.
Suddenly all views in WED are blank.
Grid lines initially visible but soon disappear.
Had this before and zoomed out to fix it, but now zoom out doesn't work.
Any ideas please.

Very similar problem here,. have not found a fix.

I've installed the latest free version from scratch on a machine that's never had the program on before. Compiled games run but the views in WED are blank, no grid, no models. Running Windows XP SP3, Intel 8294G, latest available DirectX 9. Does the latest version work with that? (I looked for a list of system and graphics card requirements on the main website but have so far failed to locate it- can someone point me to where I ought to be looking please?). I've tried fiddling with the views properties settings to no avail. Uninstall/reinstall hasn't made any difference. No error messages on install or while running, no errors in the event logs.

Edit- views work in Safe Mode. Tooltips don't. Runs more slowy in safe mode than a two-legged tortoise.

Graphics driver issue?

right click on one of the windows and select recreate view or refresh view. Or reconfigure the gxl driver in the preference to ... Doh, I forgot the name...

Yo Quidnunc
If I get anything like a fix, I will let you know.
I trust you will do likewise.
Never had a persisting problem with the software before.
Don't know where you're from, but if you are British, then the 'Sale of Goods Act' paragraph 2, section which mentions 'Goods not suitable for the purpose for which they are purchased' usually makes people pay attention.
Don't wish to turn unpleasant, but if I have to ....
By the way, when I enter WED (the editor), if I click 'new level', get a short flash of grid lines, but then thet disappear and 'zoom in' with the mouse just makes the pointer vanish until I release the button, when I find it has not moved. Also, if I enlarge (large screen view, top right of window) the top view, I get garbage but can see fragments of the level & grid lines?
I am using an emachine running XP, but tomorrow will try Vista!
Good luck
John
Recreate Views didn't work.

Using the free version here, so not in a position to complain, and as I know it works on other machines I'm pretty sure this is an issue with the machine I'm trying to run it on.

I'm getting the same momentary flash of gridlines on startup or load, followed by a blank. Recreate views doesn't work. Safe Mode does.

I know the most recent available driver for the PC is from 2005 (!) as the latest Intel chipset driver installer won't complete the installation on this specific model (bleh 'manufacturer's customised driver'). Going to see if I can persuade it to use Intel's own driver anyway.

Forced an install of the latest Intel graphics chipset drivers (Ver:14.32.4.4926, 2008, for XPPro 32), regardless of its complaints that it had some sort of custom driver build. With the latest drivers and after a restart, the WED Level Editor seems to be running fine now. Haven't yet found anything broken as a result of the driver upgrade, so things are looking good.

If it is of any significance to anyone else with a similar issue, I also disabled all display adaptors except the one in use.

Back from holiday- sorry for the gap in posting!

I'm guessing you've already checked to see what graphics adapter you have, because obviously if it's not the same as mine the driver may not work. OTOH, if this is a recurring problem with this specific adapter that we both have, hopefully this thread will help them too.

Save a system restore point before the next bit, if you're at all worried about the outcome.

You can force an install- in Device Manager, select the Porpeties for your display adapter, select Update Driver, opt not to search the Internet, Install from list or specific location, point it at wherever you unpacked the driver to, and then select the options that go ahead with the install despite it's complaints that it's not the best driver.

Restart and check back in device manager that it's got the correct adapter listed, and hasn't created a second one or something like that.

If none of that works, maybe try fitting a new card?
