Computer systems - 07/27/09 03:45

I'm quite interested to know who has what systems, so i've started a poll.

For those who do not know, a netbook is a laptop with a screen smaller than 11 inches.

If you have, say, 3 desktops, go for the 'More computers than this can describe!' option.

i couldnīt do that. the screen is too small for me. i can only develop on TFTs with 19" or more. thats minimum grin
i want to have all in my view (code jumper, solution-explorer, proberty-window, etc), not only the editor itself

i did not buy it myself but i am sure touch PRO is on absolute another boat than the touch VIVA.

for the quality and the features of the device:
i got it around 2 weeks ago didnt have much time to play around(mostly used for browsing the internet and as a cellphone - browser works flawlessly.). it's HTC, device itself looks pretty sleek and it's not heavy, battery is nice, i charged it 4 or 5 times in 2 weeks(note that i used wifi mostly), there is a 2.0mp camera on it, better than most cellphone cameras. has windows mobile 6.1 in it, only 3 downsides i seen so far-first, the internal storage capacity, it is very low, but can use microSD. second, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the device, actually there is only a mini usb port, which i assume also used for headphones. last, as in most PDAs when you go out to sun, sometimes it can get hard to see whats on the screen.

another small downside it that the screen is a bit "in" the device, i mean it's like the screen is in a concave area, sometimes you cant touch sides with your fingers from some angles. overall look is not bad but could be better.

i like the device.

this is a good and objective review of the device i am talking about: http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HTC-Touch-Viva-Review-review-r_2078.html

@julzmighty:'In your house' is the first poll, it doesn't have to be owned by you.
If 1 desktop is yours, vote it as your main computer.smile

Re: Computer systems - 07/27/09 20:44

oh in that case i should have put 2 laptops. and actually now that i think about it i have 3 desktops

Re: Computer systems - 07/27/09 23:50

Cheers mehmaster, I voted as such. I'm surprised by how many "More computers than this can describe!" votes there are!

Would've been helpful if this many people had voted on their MRT support.

Re: Computer systems - 07/28/09 02:36

Well keep in mind a lot of us know a lot about building computers and get old crappy computers from relatives too. I rebuilt my second desktop out of parts from about 3 other computers. If you'd have asked me 3 years ago, i would have been able to say i had 6 desktops and 4 laptops (not saying any of them were any real good)

Re: Computer systems - 07/28/09 06:37

You must have some messy rooms with all these hardware parts lying around.

I always try to get rid of these secondary machines to have more room for, hm, living and working. I like it better to use my time for painting, modeling and programming.
But I think this is a matter of money. As I was younger I used to repair my car and to build my own computer hardware. It was no fun to me but saved lots of money.

But there is still one desktop and 2 laptops in our household.

Re: Computer systems - 07/28/09 07:10

yeah, i got rid of most of the parts just putting them in friends or while cleaning (btw cleaning for me is taking two trash bags, one for dirty laundry, and one for trash, i only put away expensive or highly used objects laugh )

Re: Computer systems - 07/28/09 10:28

Re: Computer systems - 07/28/09 12:22

The advantage f Netbooks is that they are damn small.
My EEEPC almost fits in a big armypant pocket.

When programming, I increase the desktop size, so the
mouse can scroll the screen.
So my Eclipse can show big enough sub-windows.

Its a pure "travelling" solution though.

I hate carrying a heavy and huge laptop.
