Shadow make a big framerate drop! - 10/11/11 21:28

Hi,

I set shadow_stencil = 2 , i a test the shadow cast whit a model whit 5000 poly... the framerate goes down in a impressive ammount (unplayable for a game)... what wrong... the engine just suck or i do somthing wrong .. loll?

Are you using A8? What's your graphics card like?

Also, what other objects/shaders do you have at work in your scene?

Also, besides showing shadows on the scene, that's what shadows do.

Stencil shadows with high poly models are really slow, and even more slow if that model is an open mesh. Create a version of the model that is a closed mesh with lower polycount, then use my.shadow=myshadowentity; (search for shadow in the manual, you can find an example there).

LoL, I though it's the other way, stencil shadow function is to drop the fps, shadowing is just a side effect.

It can be simpler by using shadow_lod :), still you must create the model's lod first(using pro you can generate it automatically)
