[Updated] Script Backup Tool [GER/ENG] - 10/22/10 17:48

Hallo,

Hello,

I made a simple tool to backup and restore your files because it was annoying to create the folders and everything by hand.

The tool itself is simple. You enter the folderpath where the scripts are and the Path for the Backups. Then the tool will create for every version a own folder which can be restored later.
You can see a screenshot of the german version above.

Here is the download-link for the english version:

UPDATE: I released a new version with these features:

- Preferences to edit the Header which is needed in the Scripts
- Improved screen to choose the Backup files
- Preview of the Changelogs

EDIT: Sorry just noticed that this topic should be in "Third party Tools". Does a mod care to move it?

Well, I used Dropbox to sync the files with my team and never found a tool to backup files. It is more a little thing which fits exact to my needs. So I don't know if many people can use it at all.
But if there are wishes or such I can still do something in my freetime with it.

Dropbox makes backups automatically in the background. You can switch to older versions at any time.

Yes but first, I don't know how long they keep them. And second I don't trust them at all. Maybe I need a old codefile to look something up and it doesn't exist anymore. I find it more save to have a backup on my own PC. Best on another drive

It's very well document how long files keep alive:
Quote:
30 days of undo history, with unlimited undo available as a paid option.

Ok sorry, but in fact I want more then 30 days. I want to keep all files, so I can later see how fast I went on with developing.
As I said this program is made for my needs.
I just thought if someone needs something like that I cane load it up so this person doesn't have to write it again.

Noone needs to download it

Sorry, I didn't wanted to say that you tool is useless or something like that. I mentioned dropbox only because you said that you use it and I thought that you wasn't aware of the auto-backup feature.

I for one can't use your tool (Mac user), but it is a really nice contribution for everyone who can use it and needs it!

No, I didn't thought you meant it like that.

Looks pretty handy, but did you try a SVN tool? I've never had problems using it (Tottoise SVN Client + Ubuntu standard SVN-Server)

No, I never really tried SVN. I use it for a couple of things but not for development.
Frankly, I don't even know what you can do with it except for syncing folder

try mercurial, that's outstanding. distributed versioning tools rock.
