Short Question:
How can i import an Model from MED with bones and animations into blender? is it possible at all?
i got a .mdl file, do i need to convert it to fbx? but i not saw fbx as an importoption for blender.

If you export in FBX format from Blender you can import in MED
your character and animations.

I use Blender 2.49 , caus in Blender 2.5 a lot fo things are missing , some format export didn't work and i didn't find FBX
(i don't know for the last betas ??)

Thanks for the answer, but i meant it the other way around.
A Model that has bones and animation in MED, how can i put this into blender with bones and animations?

I can only say : Learn to create bones, and animate on MED.
It's not easy, there are some very good tutorials.
And once you get it, it's fast as hell.

You can't compare MED bones and animations to Blender.

I don't see the interest to bring the model from MED to Blender.Otherwise, you must export from MED to a file format
where Blender will import the animations !
MED is limited in file formats, and i'm not sure it have one
that do that.

There is no fbx-importer for blender, only a start where someone tried to code one.
You can only convert the exported fbx-file to obj with the free Fbx-Converter from Autodesk, but you loose the bones this way.

"animate on MED" really? I think your the only one who ever suggested that :))
animate in MED is a pain in the ass. Sure easy stuff can be done, but thats it.
Now, I know how to create bones in MED and Blender.
I think you stil dont get what i mean...

I HAVE already a model with bones and animation in MED. Now i want to Import that Model (with bones and animation) into blender, so i can make better animations.

in MED there are some 3DS Export options, but i dont know which one i can use for that, if it is one any use of what i need at all.

Re: Blender Basics - 10/07/10 09:22

I fear there is no nice solution for that problem.
Do you know the Replace Bones Matrices in MED? At least this let the bones react normal to the move tools...
3ds contains the mesh only as far I tested this all.
You can export the bones as ASCII, but I don't know whether you can import this to blender. Maybe, you can do it via Milkshape3D.
But, in the end its probably less less hassle to build and rig the bones in blender anew.

Yeah, sorry in fact i have inverted the tools in my mind laugh
Yes i wanted to say : Learn Blender and do all that on Blender.

Even for your model, don't hesitate, to rig and animate it
from Zero on Blender !
For MED , i think bones, and animations tools are for simple things or for kids to play with it.
That's sure that wanting to do animations in MED is like wanting to cut a tree with a knife laugh
Blender have lot of things , you can duplicate animations and put them anywhere, or duplicate only some bones animations , you have inverse kinematics, when you move/Mrotate a bone the others react less or more doing a lot more realistic movement etc ... etc ...

I agree , go for Blender !
